US Pastor, Who Believes Floods Are God’s Punishment Against Gays, Flees Flooded Home
Pastor Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, who preached that floods are God’s way of punishing people for abortion and gay marriage, had to flee his home due to the recent floodings in Louisiana. According to the BBC, Perkins and his family fled their property in a canoe on Saturday. He called the disaster a flood of “near-biblical proportions.”
“We had to escape from our home Saturday by canoe. We had about 10 feet of water at the end of our driveway. Our house flooded, a few of our cars flooded,” he said. In a 2015 interview with extremist Messianic Jewish pastor Jonathan Cahn, he discussed how Hurricane Joaquin was a “sign of God’s wrath.” Cahn explained how it was a sign God was angry with the legalization of gay marriage and Perkins agreed saying, “God is trying to send us a message.” The Louisiana floods have caused thousands of people to have to flee their homes. The Red Cross called it the worst natural disaster in the U.S. since Superstorm Sandy. According to CNN, more than 31 inches of rain fell in 15 hours and at least 13 people have died so far. Even pop star Taylor Swift decided to speak out about it, telling CNN: “The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their own homes this week is heartbreaking. I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time.” Swift donated $1 million to relief efforts. Just look at some of the devastation: Maybe Perkins will see this flooding a little differently from the rest. Was God trying to “punish” someone else, perhaps? Or was this just another act of nature that has nothing to do with the mating behaviors of humans?
