These Tunes Are Meant to Soothe Your Dog’s Anxiety
Life can be stressful, even for our dogs. In the summer months, they can become even more sensitive to the sound of fireworks and thunder causing whining, barking, and whimpering. Or perhaps your rescue dog has anxiety and behavioral issues from being abused and they are acting out. Playing music for your dog has already been known to soothe them, but there is a different tune that can hel, especially designed for our furry friends. Wholetones™: Healing Music for Dogs was created by Michael S. Tyrrell, a 30-year veteran in the music industry as a musician and composer, who used his past experiences to inspire and connect with people through music. Now he is using the healing power of music just for dogs. According to the promotional website, the CD, which sells for $19.95, is 22 minutes and 22 seconds recorded in a frequency – 396 Hz to be exact – that’s been scientifically proven to provide several benefits to your dog or puppy, including calming them down. “The music helps stop unwanted barking, whimpering, whining, and chewing,” Tyrrell said in the video.
Scientists do say that dogs hear at a higher frequency than people do and process audio differently. Studies done by the Journal of Veterinary Behavior show dogs listening to classical music are shown to spend more time in a resting state and bark less than other dogs who listen to heavy metal music. Classical music can actually reduce anxiety in dogs and comfort them, which is exactly the style of Wholetones music. Tyrrell shared the story of how Wholetones worked its magic on a kennel filled with barking and excited dogs, when his son Isaiah, along with their dog Gus, visited the Humane Society in South Dakota. “When they first entered the kennel room where they keep all the dogs, my son told me it was absolute chaos. Dogs were barking like crazy,” he said in the website video. Tyrrell’s friend, who was accompanying his son, started playing this special calming music he had downloaded to his phone meant to help him go to sleep at night. What they discovered was “within seconds of turning on Wholetones music,” it soothed their anxious souls with barely a whimper or a bark. Apparently it’s done the trick as the website features hundreds of testimonials from satisfied customers who tried Wholetones with their problematic pets. One woman claimed the music helped her ridgeback/sharpei Ginger with her limping issues and her adopted lab, King. “They visibly lessen after listening to Wholetones™. My lab, King, has abandonment issues which Wholetones™ has helped to soothe,” she wrote. While another woman tried everything for her two rescue dogs who suffer from PTSD. “We have employed the use of salt lamps, aromatherapy ‘spa’ music and chakra stones but I use the Wholetones™ in the car when we have to drive together and it keeps them calm enough to sleep. No more wailing and freak outs and I am sure I am benefitting [sic] too!,” she wrote. It’s just a matter of playing Wholetones softly in the background to achieve the desired effect for your troubled pooch. The music also claims to minimize separation anxiety when you leave your dog home so it just may save your couch as well.
