Tracy Morgan Makes Triumphant Return At Emmy Awards
Comedian Tracy Morgan was given a warm welcome back to the spotlight on Sunday as he made his first live public appearance at the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles since a fatal highway collision in New Jersey in June 2014. Last year, the former 30 Rock star was left with serious injuries from a horrific car accident and has spent the past year recovering from head trauma and a broken leg and ribs.
However, he made an unexpected return to the stage during the TV ceremony to present the final award of the night, Outstanding Drama Series, to Game of Thrones. Morgan was overcome with emotion as the crowd welcomed him with a standing ovation, telling the audience, “I miss you guys so much… Last year, Jimmy Kimmel stood on this stage and said, ‘We’ll see you back here next year, Tracy Morgan.’ Jimmy, thanks to my amazing doctors and the support of my family, my beautiful new wife, I’m here standing on my own two feet. God bless all of you for your love, your prayers and your positive thoughts over the past 15 months. I’m honored to be at the Emmys, I always have been honored to be here. It’s been a long road back; I suffered a traumatic brain injury that put me in a coma for eight days.” Proving he had not lost his comedic talent, Morgan launched into one of his trademark jokes, saying, “When I finally regained consciousness, I was just ecstatic to learn that I wasn’t the one who messed up. Only recently have I started to feel like myself again, which means which one of y’all wants to get pregnant at the afterparty?” Morgan, who wed his longtime girlfriend Megan Wollover last month, is set to return to his roots on Saturday Night Live in October as one of the show’s celebrity hosts.
