Toddler Survives Freak Boat Accident by Floating Under Boat in an Air Pocket for an Hour

A frantic search for a missing toddler turned into a miracle last Friday night after a boat crashed in the Florida Indian River. Tammy and Brian Bossard were coming home from dinner in a boat with their two children when a power line struck the boat and caused it to flip over. Both parents were able to get to shore with their 7-month-old daughter, Charlotte, but couldn’t find their other daughter Kennedy in all of the chaos.
“We thought we were going to lose her,” Tammy Bossard shared with ABC News. Tammy Bossard immediately called 911 in a panic hoping they could help find her 23-month-old daughter. “I’m in the river. My boat crashed and I have a baby still in the water. Please God, send someone now,” Tammy Bossard said to the dispatcher. The Bossards could hear their daughter crying, but couldn’t pin where the noise was coming from. “We couldn’t tell if she was in the boat or trapped under the boat or if she was out in the river, because we heard cries, but it sounded like it was just coming from everywhere,” Brian Bossard said. Responders searched the scene for about 45 minutes and were about to call off the search when a miracle happened. “We were just getting ready to leave and that’s when we heard a very light cry,” Cpl. Alan Worthy of the Cocoa Police Department explained. “I put my ear up to the side of the boat and I was listening and I could hear that she was right there.” Kennedy was under the boat, floating in her life jacket in the air pocket. “It’s a complete miracle that everything worked like it did, because we shouldn’t all be here today,” Tammy Bossard said. After a two-night stay in a local hospital, little Kennedy was able to return home. The girl might develop asthma as a result of the accident due to the stress on her lungs, but otherwise she is expected to be fine.
