Ronald Reagan’s Daughter Blasts Trump in Facebook Post for His ‘Verbal Violence’
Donald Trump has found himself in hot water the past few weeks seeing his political opponent hold double-digit leads in the polls as his campaign tries to put out the fires caused by the Republican candidate’s many audacities. Most recently, his words sent another jet stream of gasoline into the flames, with the following comment regarding Hillary Clinton, which many say insinuates a call for her assassination.
“Hillary wants to abolish, essentially abolish the Second Amendment,” Trump said to a crowd of supporters in the Trask Coliseum at North Carolina University in Wilmington this past Tuesday. “If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people, maybe there is. I don’t know.” In another example of nonexistent political correctness while seemingly absolving himself of any blame, Trump’s camp has been rushing to salvage what they can after the world has come down on their candidate’s commentary. The latest of these is none other than Patti Davis, the eldest child of former President Ronald Reagan and wife Nancy, by way of a particularly chastising Facebook post. Davis, whose father was the victim of an assassination attempt in 1981 – the culprit, John Hinckley Jr., was inspired by a movie he saw, and has since been released from the psychiatric hospital he spent 35 years in – presents the clear and obvious danger of Trump’s “verbal violence:” Davis points out that Trump’s ambiguous statement would probably not mean much to a normal, sane individual, but for some mentally unstable person, it could be the trigger they need to carry out such an attack. “[Your comment] was heard by your supporters, many of whom gleefully and angrily yell, “Lock her up!” at your rallies. It was heard by the person sitting alone in a room, locked in his own dark fantasies, who sees unbridled violence as a way to make his mark in the world.” Davis concluded, “Yes, Mr. Trump, words matter. But then you know that, which makes this all even more horrifying.” Davis’ words are haunting but essential, as they provide a cautionary tale to Trump’s style of rhetoric.”
