Nicholas Brendon Arrested Again
Former Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Nicholas Brendon has been arrested for the fourth time this year following a dispute with his girlfriend. Police officials in New York have confirmed the troubled actor was taken into custody on Wednesday after a domestic dispute with a partner at a hotel in Saratoga Springs.
A spokesman told Us Magazine police officers responded to a disturbance at the hotel late on Wednesday night and discovered Brendon had “forcibly” taken his girlfriend’s car keys so she couldn’t leave. The actor also reportedly threw his girlfriend’s phone onto the road outside. A police spokesman says, “In New York we’ve got a pro-domestic violence charge for criminal mischief if you damage someone’s phone to prevent them from calling 911.” The unnamed girlfriend also claimed Brendon had grabbed her by the throat and choked her. The police source claims “alcohol was involved” in the incident. Brendon was charged with third-degree robbery, two counts of criminal mischief, and one count of obstruction of breathing. The actor’s most recent arrest came in May, when he was picked up for public intoxication. He was also arrested for trashing hotel rooms while under the influence earlier in the year. In two separate instances in June and July, he entered a rehab facility to receive professional help for mental illness and substance abuse issues. In addition, he stormed out of a TV interview with self-help guru Dr. Phil McGraw in August, and later told fans the televised intervention was too dark and accused the host of going “for the jugular.” In a post on Facebook, he wrote, “My illnesses and addictions are a daily struggle for me, and I am committed to working on them for the rest of my life.”
