Disgraced Former Congressman Anthony Weiner’s Wife Leaves Him in Midst of Third Sexting Scandal
Former congressman Anthony Weiner is once again in the news, once again for a sexting scandal. The 51-year-old husband of top Hilary Clinton aide Huma Abedin allegedly sent sexually charged tweets and photos of his crotch to another female twitter user. The latest incident has prompted Abedin to separate from Weiner. Weiner, was famously involved in similar sexting scandals in 2011 and 2013 that twice torpedoed his political career. In the former he inadvertently posted a photo of his crotch to his public timeline instead of the direct message it was meant for, ultimately ending his congressional career.
The latter scandal saw Weiner, at the time a surprising leader in the New York City mayoral race, forced to drop out when it was revealed he had been sexting with women under the pseudonym “Carlos Danger.” After both instances, Abedin stood by him and the duo vowed to work on their marriage. The latest scandal came to light thanks to records supplied by a woman to the New York Post. Weiner and the anonymous user began exchanging messages in January of 2015 and continued to do so until earlier this month. Their exchanges included references to Weiner’s sexual organs, jokes about his previous scandals, and numerous selfies of both parties in provocative poses, including one from Weiner where his infant son was visible in the background. Weiner has made a brief statement on the latest controversy, saying he and the woman “have been friends for some time.” He went on, adding, “She has asked me not to comment except to say that our conversations were private, often included pictures of her nieces and nephews and my son and were always appropriate.” Several hours after the news broke on Monday, Abedin announced that she was leaving Weiner after six years of marriage. In a statement released through the Clinton Campaign, the 40-year-old said:
“After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband. Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy.”The disgraced congressman was the subject of the 2016 documentary Weiner, which detailed the first two sexting scandals and efforts to save his marriage. He has yet to comment on the separation, and his Twitter account was deleted as of Monday afternoon.
