Country singer and The Voice coach Blake Shelton has apologized for a series of racist and homophobic tweets he sent out years ago that came to light this week.

The “Honey Bee” singer, who is dating Gwen Stefani, has released a statement addressing the ill-advised correspondence from 2009 to 2011, which recently resurfaced online.

“Everyone knows comedy has been a major part of my career and it’s always been out there for anyone to see. That said anyone that knows me also knows I have no tolerance for hate of any kind or form. Can my humor at times be inappropriate? Yes. Hateful? Never. That said I deeply apologize to anyone who may have been offended.” https://twitter.com/blakeshelton/status/765957327988072448
The tweets in question, which have since been deleted, first resurfaced on Saturday. One of the most offensive remarks came in a post from March 2011, when the country star wrote: “(I wish) the d**khead in the next room would either shut up or learn some English so I would at least know what he’s planning to bomb!!” In another post, Shelton suggests the man in front of him at a coffee shop might be gay after he orders “a skinny caramel latte.” After the tweets resurfaced over the weekend, followers began to attack Shelton and the hashtag #BlakeSheltonIsOverParty began to circulate.
